Working With Me

I am committed to providing a safe, supportive environment in which you can explore your needs and get to know yourself better.  It often helps to have someone in your corner when you are grappling with difficulties.  I listen and strive to really understand your pain and struggles, so that I may get what it's like for you to be you.  Together we can work on learning more about you and your challenges, and to identify what might be getting in the way of your feeling better and happier.

My expertise includes:

Adults

I have a deep appreciation for individuals and couples who struggle with difficulties due to persistent sadness, anxiety, and low self-esteem.  I have extensive experience in treating people with history of loss, abuse and neglect, and cultural differences.  I often work with interracial couples to facilitate better understanding and communication.  I also work with young professionals who straddle generational and cultural gaps, grappling with the tug between their family's roots and the mainstream culture.

In our work, we have a chance to examine early experiences that continue to cast their shadow on your life. Perhaps those experiences are making you unable to trust or leaving you to feel guilty for what you have achieved and worried that sooner or later it would all be taken away from you.  I work extensively with individuals who, on all counts, look good on the outside but who feel undeserving, sad and inadequate on the inside.

Children

Child Play Therapy:  This mode of therapy offers a wonderful opportunity for children to express themselves while they work out their conflicts and difficulties.  I provide evaluations and treatment for very young children and adolescents, and have over 25 years' experience helping families deal effectively with their children's issues.  It is gratifying to see how early interventions can help repair and redirect a child's path toward healthy development.

I am committed to helping your children get back on track, to join their peers with a stronger sense of who they are so that they can make life decisions that are best for them.  I almost always recommend that parents be involved in some kind of parenting work, so that they can be better positioned to help their children progress and flourish.

Clinical Consultation

I offer consultation for other therapists and trainees who are interested in deepening their understanding  of their own clients.
